Forgotten Practices
We have always been interested in the tools of the trade. The exhibits in this modest [virtual] collection include a wide range of instruments and tools used in the fields of architecture and engineering for producing technical drawings. Most of these instruments would have been familiar and useful to architects and engineers for the past century--some are even older. Only in the past 20 to 25 years, have they become largely replaced by keyboards and mice. As curator of the museum, we felt an urgency to develop a collection of the tools and instruments used daily in these professions.
The MoODT is a virtual institution devoted to the advancement and retention of knowledge of the old ways of producing engineering and architectural drawings.
The collection is growing, the exhibits are rotating, and admission is free, so please take a badge, and you're free to come back frequently.
